Is Anxiety Making Too Much Noise In Your Life?

Whether it’s an endless blare of alarm bells, an inner critic who constantly questions your choices, or the sound of footsteps always running to catch up, anxiety creates a lot of noise. If left unchecked, it can be easy to tune out and blend into the background—but the stress still lurks beneath the surface, no doubt impacting your ability to live joyfully.

I know how it goes: you wake up in the morning just to feel exhausted after a restless night of sleep. Your thoughts are on repeat, which keeps you from concentrating, being present in your relationships, and being able to relax after the stress of the day. It feels like it falls on you to check off every box on your to-do list while also showing up for everyone else with a smile.

It makes sense that you feel like something’s missing. You thought you would have life all figured out by now. Instead, the daily grind feels so grueling and you’re trying to convince everyone—including yourself—that you have it all under control and can figure it out on your own.

It’s time to remove the mask! As you begin to turn down the volume on the anxious, people-pleasing inner voice in therapy, you can create more space in your life for experiences that bring a sense of peace, joy, and connection.

Many Black Women Experience Self-Blame And A Need To Be “Perfect”

As Black women, how many times have we been told that we must “work twice as hard to get half as far”? We are conditioned to be strong, stoic, carry the burden, and attach our worth to an often-narrow definition of what success looks like. While qualities like self-sufficiency and resilience can no doubt get us very far in life, we’re under a lot of pressure to do things a certain way.

The stress created by this pressure may be causing you to feel like your life isn’t matching up to what you imagined or hoped for yourself. Maybe your anxiety intensifies with each milestone that goes unmet or doesn’t fall on your timeline—likely made worse by endless scrolling on social media that generates deep feelings of inadequacy.

A Therapist Can Offer Perspective About Anxiety’s Impact On Your Ability To Feel Fulfilled And Functional

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health concerns, and it’s also one of the most treatable. In a culture that minimizes our pain and values hyper-independence, skills for reconnecting and rebuilding need to be learned. Therapy offers you a toolkit for managing stress, reducing anxiety, and paving the way towards a more joyful, fulfilling existence.

I Specialize In Therapy For Black Women Struggling With Feelings Of Stress, Overwhelm, And Anxiety

My approach to therapy for anxiety is designed to center you and your unique goals. Using our early sessions to explore your emotional blueprint—including your history, values, and relevant familial or cultural influences—we will begin connecting the dots between what your inner voice is saying and how you are responding to it.

From there, my goal is to begin the process of challenging and dismantling some of the self-blame brought on by anxiety. We will do this by shifting your mindset and expanding your window of tolerance through the use of:

  • Behavioral approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help you recognize and manage the relationship between your thoughts, behaviors, and emotions.
  • Brainspotting to gently reprocess core wounds, resolve traumas, and overcome outdated patterns.
  • Personalized grounding techniques—including aspects of movement, mindfulness, and spirituality—to promote feelings of calm and connection along the way.

As a therapist, I’m here to help you figure out what a meaningful existence looks like for you, a life where anxiety and people-pleasing are not always calling the shots.

You are not behind and as long as you’re here, there’s time to pave the way forward. There are still so many new possibilities, fulfilling experiences, and moments of joy awaiting you. It would be an honor to support you in the process of making room for what’s next.

Still Have Questions About Therapy?

I’ve already tried to resolve my anxiety with a therapist and I didn’t get the results I was looking for—how will counseling with you be any different?

This is a valid concern, and I hear you! It’s frustrating when anxiety continues even after you’ve sought therapy, but not all counseling approaches are the same.

I aim to build a warm and inviting relationship with you in a way that meaningfully affirms your experiences. As a Black woman myself, I can relate to a lot of the stress and anxiety that you may bring to therapy.

Everyone’s healing journey is different, and I assure you that even if my approach isn’t quite right for you, I’ll help you explore other more viable options. No matter which therapist you choose, the most important thing is to remember that change is possible—even if it hasn’t happened yet.

Is therapy for anxiety worth the time and money?

I completely understand that therapy can often feel like a financial burden, especially if you’re not sure how long you’ll need to be in counseling. Though this process is not designed to be a “quick fix” that doesn’t meaningfully resolve the root of the problem, my approach to anxiety treatment offers strategies for both immediate relief and long-term healing.

We will work together in counseling to build a personalized toolkit that can help you navigate stress and anxiety for life. Not only is counseling an investment in a brighter, more joyful future, it’s oriented around your sense of empowerment and independence so that you don’t feel reliant on therapy forever.

How long will I have to be in therapy before my anxiety improves?

Instead of big, dramatic changes in your life, therapy facilitates small, actionable steps that incrementally shift the way you think, feel, and experience the world around you.

My goal is to help you build tangible skills within the first few sessions so that you can begin to experience heightened awareness, increased tolerance for stress, better communication and boundary-setting, and more clarity around your decisions. All of these are signs that you’re making great progress!

You Are Exactly Where You’re Supposed To Be

I know anxiety has you feeling like you can’t escape the noise or make space for what you really want out of life, but therapy can change that. As you learn to challenge the need to be “perfect” or blame yourself for what’s gone wrong, you can begin to leverage your strengths on the path to embracing what’s going right. Let’s work together in counseling to reclaim the space that anxiety has taken away.
