Is Anxiety Making Too Much Noise In Your Life?

I know how it goes: you wake up exhausted after a restless night. Your chest feels tight, your thoughts race, and you’re constantly on edge. You’re snapping at small things, forgetting simple tasks, and feeling restless even when sitting still. You’re high-functioning on the outside but barely holding it together on the inside.

You check off every box, show up for everyone, and meet every deadline. To everyone else, you appear successful and put together; but you can’t remember the last time you felt calm. The overworking, over-preparing, and overthinking never stops because staying busy feels safer than slowing down. This is survival mode. It’s your nervous system expecting danger and running on adrenaline even when there’s no crisis.

You thought you’d have it figured out by now. Instead, you’re stuck convincing everyone—including yourself—that you have it all under control and don’t need help. But being “the strong one” who never stops comes at a cost.

It’s time to remove the mask of strength and step out of survival mode.

Many Black Women Experience Self-Blame And A Need To Be “Perfect”

Let’s be honest, a lot of us grew up believing we had to be twice as good just to be seen. We were taught to work harder, stay composed, and carry the weight without complaint. Somewhere along the way we learned that strength meant silence, and success meant exhaustion.

Those messages run deep. And while that determination and resilience got us far, it also left us anxious, overextended, and constantly questioning if we’re doing enough.

This is how survival mode becomes a way of life. High-functioning anxiety is your nervous system’s attempt to feel safe through relentless productivity, but the relief never lasts. Your inner critic kicks in, tells you it’s not enough, and the cycle starts again. The pressure builds quietly — scrolling social media, comparing timelines, and wondering why everyone else seems to have it together while you’re just trying to make it through the day.

The hidden cost of perfection keeps you striving but never settling into peace. As a Black therapist specializing in anxiety therapy for Black women, we name that pressure for what it is: survival, not failure. From there, we start creating space for the things you’ve been taught to earn but have always deserved – like ease, softness, and rest.

A Therapist Can Offer Perspective on Anxiety’s Impact on Your Life

Anxiety is one of the most common and treatable mental health concerns, and too often, it hides beneath overachievement and fierce independence.

In a culture that minimizes our pain and values hyper-independence, skills for reconnecting and rebuilding need to be learned. Therapy offers you a toolkit for managing stress, reducing anxiety, and paving the way towards a more joyful, fulfilling existence.

I Specialize In Therapy For Black Women Struggling With High-Functioning Anxiety and Survival Mode

My approach to anxiety therapy is designed to center your story, your pace, and your peace. From our first session, we’ll look at what your anxiety has been trying to protect you from. Together, we’ll trace the roots: the pressure to perform, the guilt for resting, and the generational lessons about strength that have shaped how you show up in the world.

This isn’t about “fixing” you, but about understanding you. We will begin gently loosening the self-blame that anxiety creates. We’ll widen your window of tolerance, build compassion for your younger self, and help your nervous system learn safety in rest, joy, and creativity.

A Specialized Approach for BIPOC Women

    • Mind-Body Connection: We’ll help your nervous system learn safety that makes space for rest, joy, and creativity.
    • Healing Techniques: We utilize somatic approaches like Brainspotting, somatic tracking, and mindfulness to build safety in your body as you process core wounds and release the stories that your body remembers. We’ll also use behavioral approaches like CBT and DBT to manage the link between your thoughts and emotions, and build tolerance.
    • Building Peace: We’ll gently loosen the self-blame that anxiety creates and build compassion for your younger self.

As your anxiety therapist, you’ll loosen the grip of perfection, release the burden of always being “on,” and rebuild a life where peace isn’t something you earn but instead, something you deserve. You’ve been surviving. Now it’s time to thrive.

I know anxiety has convinced you that you’re behind, off track, or not doing enough. It keeps you in survival mode. Together, we’ll use anxiety therapy to reclaim the space that worry has taken up and create a life that feels soft, grounded, and fully yours.

Still Have Questions About Therapy?

I’ve already tried to resolve my anxiety with a therapist and I didn’t get the results I was looking for—how will counseling with you be any different?

This is a valid concern, and I hear you! It’s frustrating when anxiety continues even after you’ve sought therapy, but not all counseling approaches are the same.

I aim to build a warm and inviting relationship with you in a way that meaningfully affirms your experiences. As a Black woman myself, I can relate to a lot of the stress and anxiety that you may bring to therapy.

Everyone’s healing journey is different, and I assure you that even if my approach isn’t quite right for you, I’ll help you explore other more viable options. No matter which therapist you choose, the most important thing is to remember that change is possible—even if it hasn’t happened yet.

Is therapy for anxiety worth the time and money?

I completely understand that therapy can often feel like a financial burden, especially if you’re not sure how long you’ll need to be in counseling. Though this process is not designed to be a “quick fix” that doesn’t meaningfully resolve the root of the problem, my approach to anxiety treatment offers strategies for both immediate relief and long-term healing.

We will work together in counseling to build a personalized toolkit that can help you navigate stress and anxiety for life. Not only is counseling an investment in a brighter, more joyful future, it’s oriented around your sense of empowerment and independence so that you don’t feel reliant on therapy forever.

How long will I have to be in therapy before my anxiety improves?

Instead of big, dramatic changes in your life, therapy facilitates small, actionable steps that incrementally shift the way you think, feel, and experience the world around you.

My goal is to help you build tangible skills within the first few sessions so that you can begin to experience heightened awareness, increased tolerance for stress, better communication and boundary-setting, and more clarity around your decisions. All of these are signs that you’re making great progress!

You Are Exactly Where You’re Supposed To Be

I know anxiety has a way of convincing you that you’re behind, off track, or missing something. It keeps your mind busy and your body tense—like peace is something you have to earn. But therapy can quiet the noise and help you find your way back to yourself. As you begin to loosen the grip of perfection and release the habit of self-blame, you’ll start to see your strength in a new light. You’ve been surviving for so long—now it’s time to thrive. Together, we’ll use anxiety therapy to reclaim the space that worry has taken up and rebuild a life that feels soft, grounded, and fully yours.
